BP's Valhall Power from Shore project in Norway
Project description:
- A BP project for the Valhall offshore oil field (Norwegian North Sea)
Customer challenges:
- The world's first offshore oil field to receive all its electricity from shore
- No need for on-platform generation
- Savings of around 35 million euros in investment costs and 5.5 million euros in annual operating costs
- Reduce the danger of fires and explosions
- Reduce the noise and vibration levels
- Reduce emissions (CO2 and NOx)
Nexans solutions:
- 292 km of HVDC (High-Voltage Direct Current)-IRC maritime cable (150 kV)
- A separate optical fiber submarine cable
- All associated equipment both at the land station and on the platform
- Power cable manufactured at Nexans' factory in Halden, Norway
- Optical fiber cable manufactured at Nexans' factory in Rognan, Norway
